Trumpeter Ephraim Owens has temporarily left the Tedeschi Trucks Band with the band citing “personal reasons” behind the Dallas native’s decision. Multi-instrumentalist Justin Johnson (Marcus King/Little Stranger) filled in for Owens on Wednesday night at the TTB’s show in Chicago.
Ephraim Owens joined the Tedeschi Trucks Band in 2015 and has been in the 12-piece ensemble’s horn section ever since. The band’s Deuces Wild Tour continues tonight, August 2 with their first of two shows at The Armory in Minneapolis.

“Our friend and bandmate Ephraim Owens has to step away temporarily for personal reasons. We wish him all the best and can’t wait for him to rejoin us on stage,” wrote the TTB on social media. “Got called a few hours prior to the gig to fill in for @derekandsusan it was a wonderful night of music,” Justin Johnson explained on Instagram.
Margo Price kicks off both nights in Minneapolis. Price will open remaining summer dates on the summer leg of the Tedeschi Trucks Band’s Deuces Wild Tour.
