Rush recently reissued their 1980 studio album Permanent Waves in honor of the LP’s 40th anniversary. An animated video for “The Spirit Of Radio,” a single from the LP, has been shared on the band’s YouTube page to promote the reissue.

The new “The Spirit Of Radio” video was directed by David Calcano and Alberto Hadyar of Fantoons and incorporates animated images of band members Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart as they appeared at the time of Permanent Waves’ release. Drawings of Peart, who passed away in January, also show the drummer as a youngster and driving a “Red Barchetta” sports car.

“In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Permanent Waves, here is the new conceptual music video for ‘The Spirit Of Radio,'” explained surviving members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson in a Facebook post. “The animated video captures the magic, spirit and growth of the FM radio format with a nostalgic nod to the pioneering DJ’s broadcasting music into homes around the world. The video also pays homage our late brother and fellow bandmate Neil Peart whose music and lyrics continue to capture the hearts and imaginations of the fans.”
