Pearl Jam Welcomes Tom Hamilton & J Mascis At Fenway Park

On Sunday night Seattle rockers Pearl Jam concluded a two-show stand at Fenway Park that marked the band’s debut at the famed Boston ballpark. Just as they did on Friday, Eddie Vedder & Co. included plenty of local flavor as Massachusetts’ own Tom Hamilton and J Mascis sat-in.

Pearl Jam mixed material from eight different studio albums with rarities and covers for their 35-song, three-hour performance at the home of the Red Sox. The band did put a focus on their most recent album (Lightning Bolt) and 1994’s Vitalogy by performing five songs a piece from each LP. The main set included a handful of rarities, most notably “Nothing As It Seems,” “Hail Hail” and “Not For You.” Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton emerged towards the middle of the main set to guest on a cover of his band’s “Draw The Line,” which came just one show after Pearl Jam debuted their version of the tune.

The first encore featured the tour’s first cover of “I Believe In Miracles” by The Ramones and the return of “Yellow Moon” after 22 shows. Last month Pearl Jam busted out “Angel” for the first time since 1994 and on Sunday the band played it once more as part of the first encore. The show came to a close with an eight-song second encore that saw Dinosaur Jr. frontman J Mascis and drummer Matt Cameron’s son Ray Cameron emerge to help out on a cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World.” Pearl Jam said farewell with a version of “Yellow Ledbetter” that included Mike McCready working in portions of the “Star-Spangled Banner.” Next up for the group are two shows at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
