Each week Release Day Picks profile new LPs and EPs Team JamBase will be checking out on release day Friday. This week we highlight new albums from Gnarls Barkley, Harry Styles, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Yebba, Shabaka and Flying Lotus. Read on for more insight into the records we have ready to spin.
After nearly two decades apart, CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse revived their Gnarls Barkley project for Atlanta, their final album, released via Atlantic Records/10k Projects. The singer and acclaimed producer first joined forces as Gnarls Barkley for their 2006 debut album, St. Elsewhere, which included the chart-topping single “Crazy.” Green and Danger Mouse then put out their sophomore LP, The Odd Couple, in 2008. Now they complete the trilogy and wrap the project with Atlanta.
Both members of Gnarls Barkley have kept busy since The Odd Couple. CeeLo Green put out two albums with his hip-hop band Goodie Mob in addition to four solo records, while Danger Mouse released three Broken Bells LPs with James Mercer of the Shins and produced recordings by A$AP Rocky, Parquet Courts, U2, The Black Keys, MGMT, Michael Kiwanuka and Beck, among others.
Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally. is British singer-songwriter Harry Styles’ fourth solo album. Released today through Erskine Record/Columbia Records, the 12-track effort follows the former One Direction member’s 2022 solo LP, Harry’s House. Style worked with producers Kid Harpoon and Tyler Johnson on Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally., with sessions held at Berlin’s Hansa Studios. The album also features contributions from Wolf Alice’s Ellie Rowsell and House Gospel Choir members.
Singer-songwriter Will Oldham shared a new Bonnie “Prince” Billy album entitled We Are Together Again through No Quarter. Work began prior to Oldham’s time in Nashville recording his most recent album, 2025’s The Paper Bird. Oldham returned to the 10 songs that make up the LP last spring during sessions held at End Of An Ear Studios in his hometown of Louisville. Current touring companions, Jacob Duncan (flute and saxophone) and Thomas Deakin (clarinet, whistle, baritone electric guitar, accordion, cornet), were part of the recording process, alongside Ryder McNair, Chris Bush, Ned Oldham and Erin Hill. Oldham, who co-produced with engineer Jim Marlowe, named additional contributors in the below album statement:
“This record was made closer to the Ohio River than any I’ve been involved with since 1993’s Palace Brothers There Is No-One What Will Take Care of You. Louisville’s current-and-past vital musical community is highlighted on every song.
“Catherine Irwin, who sang on the BPB release Ease Down the Road, is back here on ‘Hey Little’ and ‘Vietnam Sunshine.’ Lacey Guthrie, Tory Fisher and Katie Peabody, the three front women of the band Duchess, sing together on the opening and closing songs, parallel odes to the beast that is fear.“
Singer-songwriter Yebba released her highly anticipated sophomore album, Jean, via RCA Records. The Arkansas native’s well-received debut album, Dawn, was released in 2021. The 14-track Jean was reportedly named after Yebba’s late grandmother.
Of The Earth continues to build on British bandleader/multi-instrumentalist Shabaka’s mid-2025 return to the saxophone, which began at Louis Moholo’s memorial event. Released today on his newly formed Shabaka Records label, Of the Earth was written, recorded, produced and mixed entirely by Shabaka. The album is Shabaka’s first to feature him rapping.
“D’angelo’s Brown Sugar was the first CD I bought and it sparked a lasting curiosity about the emotional possibilities allowed by the self produced and performed album,” Shabaka stated. “This record is my celebration of freedom in creative self expression. Before the pandemic I could only play the clarinet and saxophone and knew nothing about music production (or how to play the flute), so this has been a journey of learning and a reflection on the music that’s been created as a result.”
Flying Lotus (Steven Ellison) shared a new EP, BIG MAMA. The seven-track collection (presented individually and a single closing track megamix) is notable for being the first Flying Lotus music released on his well-establish label, Brainfeeder Records.
“I wanted it to feel like being shot out of a cannon, just explosive, unpredictable energy,” Ellison said. “Like a fuckin’ computer gone awry. Like a machine that had just lost its mind.”
