Watch My Morning Jacket Premiere Captivating New Song ‘Be My Mountain’ In Mississippi

My Morning Jacket took the stage in Jackson, Mississippi on Monday for their second concert of 2023. After debuting a new song on Sunday, the Louisville-based rockers unveiled another new tune last night at Jackson’s Thalia Mara Hall.

The new original “Be My Mountain” came towards the end of My Morning Jacket’s 18-song main set on Monday. The uplifting song about the importance of humans being there for each other despite any challenges that arise was sung beautifully by frontman Jim James.

Carl Broemel played pedal steel on the number, which featured a pair of passionate guitar solos from James. Keyboardist Bo Koster provided pretty piano stylings as the rhythm section of bassist Tom Blankenship and drummer Patrick Hallahan kept a sturdy base underneath.

My Morning Jacket switched up the setlist in a big way following opening night. “Easy Morning Rebel” off 2003’s It Still Moves got the call to start Monday’s show. Other songs played in Mississippi but not the previous night in Alabama included “What A Wonderful Man,” “Anytime,” “Where To Begin,” “Regularly Scheduled Programming,” “Off The Record,” “Magic Bullet,” “Touch Me I’m Going To Scream Pt. 1,” “Run It,” “Tropics (Erase Traces),” “Penny For Your Thoughts,” “Victory Dance,” “Xmas Curtain” and “Gideon.” My Morning Jacket did not perform “Just Tell Me How To Move” in Jackson just one day after debuting the song.

Last night’s encore also featured three 2023 debuts as classics “Wonderful (The Way I Feel)” and “Dancefloors” were split by “Never In The Real World” off 2021’s My Morning Jacket album. MMJ heads to Mexico next and then will embark on their first European tour in eight years before returning to North America this summer and fall.
