Tedeschi Trucks Band Covers Neil Young & Junior Wells With Lukas Nelson In Washington

Tedeschi Trucks Band welcomed tourmate Lukas Nelson for a pair of collaborations Wednesday during the second of two consecutive shows together in Washington. Nelson came out during TTB’s headlining set to join the band for covers of Junior Wells’ “Little By Little” and the Neil Young classic “Helpless” at the scenic Chateau Ste. Michelle in Woodinville.

The two-show run marked the 12-piece ensemble’s first visit to the Seattle area winery and outdoor concert venue. Lukas Nelson began supporting TTB last weekend at Red Rocks and will open all but a handful of shows for the group through September 6.

After the opening set from the singer-songwriter and his solo outfit, Tedeschi Trucks Band took the stage last night to deliver a 145-minute performance. An opening sequence of originals “Don’t Let Me Slide,” “Crazy Cryin'” and “Who Am I” was followed by the group’s recently debuted medley of Sly & The Family Stone gems “You Can Make It If You Try” and “Everyday People.” A few songs later, keyboardist Gabe Dixon stepped into the spotlight to guide his bandmates through The Allman Brothers Band’s “Come And Go Blues.”

Susan Tedeschi then fronted a performance of the title track from her 1998 solo album Just Won’t Burn before bringing out Lukas Nelson for “Little By Little,” another song she recorded for the 11-track project. Nelson stuck around to assist on “Helpless” with vocals and guitar. It was Tedeschi Trucks Band’s first performance of the Neil Young-penned “Helpless” since March 24, 2022, ending a 329-show gap.

After Nelsone exited, Tedeschi Trucks Band moved forward with “I Got You” and a seamless run of “Loving Cup,” “Leavin’ Trunk” and “Volunteered Slavery.” The group chose “Bound For Glory” to cap the main set. Tedeschi returned to the stage with Dixon to begin the encore with a duet of the Bonnie Raitt-popularized “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” The full ensemble then brought the show to a powerful conclusion with the beloved “Made Up Mind.”
