Mdou Moctar Brings ‘Funeral For Justice’ Songs To Life At NPR ‘Tiny Desk Concert’

Mdou Moctar recently stopped by the offices of NPR Music to perform a Tiny Desk Concert. The Tuareg rock band led by namesake lead guitarist Mdou Moctar played songs from their latest album, Funeral For Justice.
Moctar and his bandmates, rhythm guitarist Ahmoudou Madassane, drummer Souleymane Ibrahim and bassist Mikey Coltun, delivered a three-song set for the long-running live performance series. The set began with “Imouhar,” which addresses the preservation of Niger’s native language Tamasheq.
The foursome then played the Funeral For Justice title track, a protest anthem rejecting the exploitation of Africa. Mdou Moctar finished their Tiny Desk Concert with the introspective “Takoba.”
Mdou Moctar will tour North America in support of Funeral For Justice starting in October. Watch the band’s Tiny Desk Concert below:
