Margo Price took up the lofty task of covering “Maggie’s Farm” – the first song Bob Dylan played while controversially “going electric” for the first time at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival – during her set this weekend at the long-running event in Newport, Rhode Island. Price marked the occasion by seeking the assistance of actor/musician John C. Reilly and singer-songwriter Jesse Welles for her attempt at the notorious Dylan classic.
Price’s Newport set saw a performance of “Don’t Let the Bastards Get You Down,” the lead single from her forthcoming new album, Hard Headed Woman. Another song from the record arriving August 29, the single “Don’t Wake Me Up,” was recently issued by Price featuring Jesse Welles on the studio cut. Welles, who performed at Newport as well, shared the stage with Price for “Don’t Wake Me Up.”
Like Welles, Reilly made multiple appearances with other Newport performers throughout the weekend at Fort Adams State Park. Price’s set also saw her and Reilly collaborate on a rendition of the Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner-popularized “Making Plans.”
Price, Reilly and Welles were all on stage together for the performance of “Maggie’s Farm.” Watch footage of Margo Price’s Newport set below:
