Goose returned to the Newport Folk Festival at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island on Friday, for what turned out to be a rain-shortened set. The inclement weather did not stop the band from playing a few songs, including bringing out acclaimed singer-songwriter Kenny Loggins for his classic, “Danger Zone.”
Goose’s abbreviated Newport set saw guitarist Rick Mitarotonda, keyboardist/guitarist Peter Anspach, bassist Trevor Weekz and drummer Cotter Ellis chase the clouds away with an opening “Rockdale.”
The foursome next dialed up “Hungersite” and followed with “Give It Time,” the latter appearing on their recently released studio album, Everything Must Go.
Goose finished their set with Kenny Loggins joining the band onstage for “Danger Zone.” The song from the soundtrack to the 1986 movie Top Gun had been performed by Goose several times, dating back to 2016.
Loggins also performed a weather-shortened set at Newport, managing to work in his hits “I’m Alright” and “Footloose,” among others. Watch Loggins and Goose take the highway to the “Danger Zone” together at Newport Folk Festival:

Mitarotonda stuck around to participate in Sunday’s all-star Songs For The People collaborative set at Newport Folk. The Goose guitarist led a rendition of the Grateful Dead’s “Eyes Of The World” while sharing the stage with members of Bonny Light Horseman, Joe Russo, Trombone Shorty, Leslie Mendelson and Mt. Joy's Matt Quinn.
Mitarotonda also participated in a performance of The Who’s “My Generation” with Matt Logan Vasquez and others ahead of the Songs For The People finale with all the musicians coming out for “Goodnight, Irene.”
