Jack Antonoff and his band Bleachers hosted an Ally Coalition Talent Show at Newport Folk Festival on Friday night. Like other performances supporting Antonoff’s LGBTQ+ equality nonprofit, several special guests participated in the talent show, including Paramore’s Hayley Williams, Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy and singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright, among others.
Williams was last to perform with Antonoff and Bleachers and began her guest spot with her recently released solo song, “Mirtazapine.” She then helped sing a cover of Modern English’s “I Melt With You.”
Tweedy preceded Williams and started off his sit-in with a cover of Lana Del Rey’s “Margaret.” He then led a run through Wilco’s “Kamera.” Wainwright came out before Tweedy and sang the Bleachers song “45.” Wainwright accompanied a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Not Dark Yet” as well.
Bleachers also performed “Don’t Go Dark” with Maren Morris and covered Roy Orbison’s “You Got It” with Waxahatchee and Weyes Blood. “Dream A Little Dream Of Me” was also augmented by Weyes Blood. Dan Reeder was brought out to play his song “Maybe,” alongside Weyes Blood, Waxahatchee and Peggy Reeder.
