Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks Sit In With Alabama Shakes In Cincinnati

Alabama Shakes capped their four-show run with Tedeschi Trucks Band on Wednesday night at Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati. Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks joined the band onstage for “Time.”

Tedeschi and Trucks came out during the Alabama Shakes set to sit in on “Time,” which appears on the band’s new album, I Must Be Dreaming, which is set for release tomorrow, August 28. The collaboration came after Tedeschi Trucks Band opened the concert, with Alabama Shakes taking the stage at 9:30 p.m. and closing the show.

“Time” arrived seventh in Alabama Shakes’ 20-song performance. Brittany Howard and her bandmates played a total of nine cuts from the impending LP. The group also performed such live staples as “Hold On,” “Sound & Color,” “Joe,” “Be Mine” and “Don’t Wanna Fight.” Alabama Shakes closed out the night with a three-song encore featuring “American Dream,” “Drive By Baby” and “Gimme All Your Love.”

The Cincinnati appearance concluded a four-show stretch that paired the two acclaimed rock bands. Tedeschi Trucks Band and Alabama Shakes also shared bills in Noblesville, Indiana; Maryland Heights, Missouri and Grand Rapids, Michigan before arriving at Riverbend for the final show of the run.

The two groups had already begun blurring the lines between their respective sets one night earlier in Grand Rapids. Alabama Shakes frontperson Brittany Howard joined Tedeschi Trucks Band during the latter’s performance of Sly & The Family Stone’s “Everyday People” at Acrisure Amphitheater. Alabama Shakes touring members Shanay Johnson and Karita Law also provided backing vocals during the Sly & The Family Stone sequence, with Howard sharing vocals with Tedeschi.

That Grand Rapids collaboration marked the first onstage crossover between the two bands during their four-show run. Tedeschi Trucks Band had incorporated a medley of “You Can Make It If You Try” and “Everyday People” into the repertoire earlier this year during the 12-piece ensemble’s Beacon Theatre residency.

Tedeschi Trucks Band’s Cincinnati set preceded the Alabama Shakes performance and featured 14 songs over 90 minutes. The group drew from its 2026 album, Future Soul, performing “Who Am I,” “Hero,” “What in the World” and the title track, along with such covers as “Ohio” and “Loving Cup.” The set began with “Don’t Let Me Slide,” with “Anyhow,” “I Want More” and “Let Me Get By” among other live fan favorites to make the setlist.

The joint dates came as Tedeschi Trucks Band tours behind Future Soul, its sixth studio album, while Alabama Shakes continue their return to the road surrounding the release of I Must Be Dreaming.
