On the eve of today’s release of their self-titled album, Lucius performed a concert last night in Los Angeles. Two contributors to the album, guitarist Adam Granduciel of The War On Drugs and singer-songwriter Madison Cunningham, joined the band at Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever.
Lucius – Holly Laessig, Jess Wolfe, Peter Lalish and Dan Molad – recorded Lucius during sessions held at Los Angeles’ Altamira Sound and at Molad’s home studio, Sounds Like A Fire, which was left inoperable by the recent Los Angeles wildfires.
All 11 songs making up the new album were incorporated into Thursday’s setlist. The performance included a few songs from their 2013 album, Wildwomen and 2022’s Second Nature. The concert ended with a cover of R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts.”
Granduciel was first to accompany Lucius, arriving near the end of the main set to sing and play his guitar part on the Lucius track “Old Tape.” Cunningham’s participation came during the encore when she, Laessig and Wolfe sang “Impressions” around a shared microphone.
