Los Lobos Ends City Winery Run With Jackie Greene, Nels Cline & Marc Ribot
By Scott Bernstein Dec 20, 2016 • 8:11 am PST

On Monday night East L.A. rockers Los Lobos ended a residency at City Winery in New York City with a second set and encore filled with guest appearances. Guitarists Jackie Greene, Nels Cline and Marc Ribot each sat-in with the legendary band on Monday in the Big Apple.
Los Lobos plucked original material from more than seven albums over the course of two sets at City Winery on Monday. The guest spots started in the middle of the closing stanza, when Ribot emerged for a “La Venganza De Los Pelados” that was interrupted by an issue with Steve Berlin’s saxophone. Marc Ribot also contributed to “Georgia Slop.” It was then Greene’s turn to shine on covers of The Allman Brothers Band’s “Don’t Keep Me Wonderin'” and the Grateful Dead’s “Bertha” featuring a “Not Fade Away” intro. Wilco guitarist Nels Cline came out during “Bertha” to duel with Jackie. Cline also showed off his skills on an encore of “La Bamba” and “Hey Joe.”
The guest-filled finale came after Jeff Mattson and Syd Straw sat-in on Saturday and Brandon “Taz” Niederauer appeared on Sunday. Next up for Los Lobos is a performance in Washington, D.C. tonight.
