Saxophonist Kamasi Washington and his band released their cover of Metallica’s “My Friend Of Misery.” The track appears on The Metallica Blacklist, a compilation featuring 53 covers of songs from Metallica’s The Black Album due out via Blackened Records digitally on September 10 with vinyl and CD versions arriving on October 1.

Washington and company previously teamed with Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo to perform “My Friend Of Misery” at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl on July 18. Kamasi’s take on the song is a winding epic spanning nearly seven minutes that features powerful vocals from Patrice Quinn.

Chris Stapleton, Phoebe Bridgers, St. Vincent and Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit are among the acts who released their contributions to The Metallica Blacklist. Proceeds from the compilation will be split between Metallica’s All Within My Hands charitable foundation and organizations selected by each participating artist. Kamasi picked The World Stage, an educational and performance art space in Los Angeles’ Leimert Park Village.
