Paul Simon had a big surprise in store for his latest appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Simon broke out old favorite “Something So Right” on the CBS late-night televsion program for his first live performance of the song in 33 years.

“Something So Right” was originally released by the New York City native on his 1973 solo album, There Goes Rhymin’ Simon. Paul Simon has only played the song live sporadically over the years with a version in 1993 his most recent “Something So Right” performance until last night.

The musical performance came after Paul Simon sat for an extended chat with Stephen Colbert. Simon discussed his reaction to learning his first hit had scored a place on the charts, taking a bribe to play a request, his upcoming A Quiet Celebration Tour and much more.

Paul Simon sang the gorgeous take on “Something So Right” backed by members of his touring band: drummer Steve Gadd, guitarists Gyan Riley and Mark Stewart, bassist Bakithi Kumalo, viola player Caleb Burhans, cellist Eugene Friesen and Nancy Stagnitta on flute.
