Jason Isbell Performs With Former Drive-By Truckers Band Mates Patterson Hood & Mike Cooley

Yesterday Drive-By Truckers frontmen Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley reunited with their former band mate Jason Isbell for a special acoustic performance. Both acts were on-hand to perform separately during the Americana Honors & Awards nominations special, which was live-streamed from the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville.

Shortly after Hood and Cooley played “Once They Banned Imagine” and “What It Means” from their critically-acclaimed album American Band, the duo invited out their former band mate to perform with them. Isbell prefaced the performance by saying, “This is weird. I like weird,” the trio then proceeded to play the Isbell sung track “Outfit” from the Trucker’s 2003 release Decoration Day.

Isbell, who parted ways with the Southern Rock act back in 2007, last played with his former band earlier this year during their stop at the Ryman Auditorium.

Both Jason Isbell and the Drive-By Truckers got nominated for Artist and Duo/Group of the Year respectively, with the Truckers also garnering a nod for Album for the Year during yesterday’s reveal. The 16th annual Americana Honors and Awards is set to take place on September 13.
