Zach Top Helps Red Clay Strays Make Madison Square Garden Debut

Mobile, Alabama’s own The Red Clay Strays made their headlining debut at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. The band welcomed fellow country artist Zach Top for a pair of tunes in New York City.

Red Clay Strays opened up the sold-out MSG show with a standout, “Demons In Your Choir,” off their new album Grateful. The band actually doubled up on “Demons In Your Choir,” offering a second take at the producer’s request — likely for documentation purposes — during the encore. The Grateful cut “Don’t Wanna Know” also saw two plays.

Zach Top joined the band for both performances of “Don’t Wanna Know,” the first arriving four songs into the set. Red Clay frontman Brandon Coleman addressed the audience.

“I’ll be honest with you, it feels good up here,” Coleman noted. “One of our good buddies was very kind enough to fly in cuz we wanted to make the night as special as we could for you guys and he said he’d fly in and do a song with us. Please welcome to the stage Mr. Zach Top.”

Top returned for the encore performance of “Don’t Wanna Know” and stuck around for a cover of the Kris Kristofferson classic, “Help Me Make It Through the Night.” Red Clay Strays brought their Madison Square Garden debut to a close with a track, “No One Else Like Me,” off their previous record, Made By These Moments. The finale saw a guest spot from David Shaw, frontman of opening act The Revivalists.
