Hiss Golden Messenger‘s MC Taylor performed a pair of songs for Luck Presents’ Come & Toke It 4/20 event on Monday. Taylor covered a Townes Van Zandt classic and then played one of his one tunes during the Willie Nelson-hosted livestream.

Taylor filmed his segment at home in Durham, North Carolina and started by reciting “Breaking,” a poem by Kentucky poet Wendell Berry. MC then introduced a cover of Townes Van Zandt’s “Loretta” as “a song by one of the great Texan songwriters not named Willie Nelson.” Van Zandt originally released “Loretta” on Flyin’ Shoes in 1978. For the finale, MC Taylor performed “I Need A Teacher,” the song that opens the most recent Hiss Golden Messenger album, Terms Of Surrender.
