Guns N’ Roses Cover New York Dolls’ ‘Human Being’ In Abu Dhabi

Guns N’ Roses continued their trek through the Middle East on their Because What You Want & What You Get Are Two Completely Different Things Tour with a performance in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. GNR modified the setlist at Etihad Arena to include four tour debuts, as well as their live debut cover of New York Dolls’ “Human Being.”

Frontman Axl Rose, guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan, keyboardist Dizzy Reed, guitarist Richard Fortus, keyboardist Melissa Reese and drummer Isaac Carpenter offered the first tour debut in the middle of set when McKagan sang lead on a cover of the Misfits’ “Attitude.”

The next tour setlist slot was the next tour debut, “Reckless Life,” from GNR’s 1988 sophomore album, Lies.

Near the end of the main set, Guns N’ Roses performed “Human Being,” the New York Dolls song the band covered for their fifth album, 1993’s “The Spaghetti Incident?”. Written by David Johansen and Johnny Thunders, “Human Being” was the final track on the influential punk band’s second album, 1974’s Too Much Too Soon.

The cover debut was followed by the tour debut of their 2023 single, “The General.” The final tour addition of the night came immediately after in the form of “Used to Love Her.” The Lies rarity was purportedly last played by GNR in 2018.

The rest of the show was made up of selections from across Guns N’ Roses’ cross-section of albums, delivering favorites like “Welcome to the Jungle,” “Mr. Brownstone,” “Patience,” “Sweet Child o’ Mine,” “Paradise City” and covers of “Live And Let Die,” “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” and “Wichita Lineman.”
