Goose launched a two-night stand at Kettlehouse Amphitheater in Bonner, Montana on Thursday. The quintet unveiled a cover of Radiohead’s “True Love Waits” during night one near Missoula.
Goose — guitarist Rick Mitarotonda, keyboardist/guitarist Peter Anspach, bassist Trevor Weekz, percussionist Jeff Arevalo and drummer Cotter Ellis — kicked off the concert with a three-song seamless sequence beginning with the slow-burning “Atlas Dogs.”
The jaunty new tune “One In, One Out” — recently debuted at MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston on September 2 — came next. The band stretched the third play of the song out to 16 minutes. “California Magic” completed the opening trifecta.

The bluegrass-tinged “Flodown” followed. The Mitarotonda/Anspach co-write “Elizabeth” — boasting some rapid-fire riffage from Rick — kicked off a continuous set-closing sequence which contained a mini Moon Cabin suite of “Interlude II” and “Jive I.” The first frame came to a close with “Jive Lee.”
Goose threw down on a 17-minute “Pancakes” to commence the second set. A well-jammed “Wysteria Lane” then gave way to the Radiohead debut. While it was a first-time play for Goose, “True Love Waits” has existed in the Orebolo — Rick, Peter and Jeff’s acoustic project — since early this year when the trio unveiled it at the Capitol Theatre.
While “True Love Waits” closes out Raidohead’s 2016 A Moon Shaped Pool, the band debuted the song in 1995 and worked on it for decades before it finally landed on AMSP.
Goose’s first-time play of “True Love Waits” saw Mitarotonda at the helm with Anspach joining him in harmony. This time with keyboards at his disposal, Peter buoyed the song on shimmering piano.
Big jams on “Rosewood Heart” and “Same Old Shenanigans” brought set two to a close. Goose returned to encore with the funk-inflected “Rockdale.”
