Earlier this month, Warren Haynes held the 18th Pre-Jam at the Orange Peel in Asheville ahead of the following night’s 28th Christmas Jam at U.S. Cellular Center. Bob Weir was among the unannounced performers on the Pre-Jam lineup and a recording of the Grateful Dead guitarist leading an all-star collective has surfaced.

Weir’s set began with solo acoustic takes on Bob Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” the new Blue Mountain original “Only A River” and the Dead’s “Loose Lucy.” Bassist Don Was, pianist Holly Bowling, drummer Duane Trucks of Widespread Panic and guitarist Tom Hamilton of American Babies/JRAD/Billy & The Kids then joined Bobby for the duration of his performance. The ensemble offered a take on Dylan’s “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall,” the Blue Mountain track “Ghost Towns” and Grateful Dead classics “Friend Of The Devil” and “Tennessee Jed.” Haynes emerged to sit-in on the finale rendition of the Dead’s “Touch Of Grey.”

An audience recording of Bobby’s set at the Orange Peel was shared by david, stream it below:
