Warren Haynes Joins Bob Weir At 18th Annual Christmas Jam Pre-Jam

Last night Warren Haynes hosted the 18th Pre-Jam at the Orange Peel in Asheville ahead of tonight’s 28th annual Christmas Jam at U.S. Cellular Center. Haynes performed a solo set, with his band Gov’t Mule and sat-in with Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir and an all-star band.

In typical Pre-Jam fashion Friday’s lineup was not known prior to showtime. Weir’s performance began with solo acoustic renditions of Bob Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” the Blue Mountain track “Only A River” and the Dead’s “Loose Lucy.” He was then joined by a band that featured bassist Don Was, pianist Holly Bowling, drummer Duane Trucks of Widespread Panic and guitarist Tom Hamilton of American Babies/JRAD/Billy & The Kids. The collective played Dylan’s “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall,” Weir’s “Ghost Towns” and the Grateful Dead favorites “Friend Of The Devil” and “Tennessee Jed” as well as “Touch Of Grey” with Haynes sitting-in on guitar.

Other acts that performed last night included Tom Hamilton’s American Babies, Jamey Johnson & Alison Krauss, The Marcus King Band and a group featuring Eric Krasno, George Porter Jr., Danny Louis and Terence Higgins. The sold-out 28th annual Christmas Jam takes place tonight at U.S. Cellular Center. A webcast is available from nugs.tv.
