Eggy Gets Horn Boost From Jennifer Hartswick & Natalie Cressman At Music On The Mountain BIG Weekend

The Phoenix presented the third annual Music On The Mountain festival last weekend at Okemo Mountain Resort in Ludlow, Vermont to raise funds for and in partnership with The Divided Sky Foundation. Dubbed the BIG Weekend, Okemo’s Jackson Gore Village hosted several sets over the weekend, including an Eggy performance featuring special guests trumpeter Jennifer Hartswick and trombonist Natalie Cressman.

Hartswick and Cressman are longtime members of Divided Sky Foundation founder Trey Anastasio's TAB ensemble. The pair also participated in the BIG Weekend All-Stars After Party featuring Brian Murray and Jimmy Law of Dogs In A Pile, Karina Rykman, Daniel Donato, Dezron Douglas and Joe Dyson, among others.

The supergroup played one classic rock cover after another with such gems as Traffic’s “Feelin’ Alright?,” Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ “Listen To Her Heart,” Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer,” Bob Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower” and Grateful Dead’s “Loose Lucy” making the setlist. Additionally, LaMP and Rykman performed sets of their own as did 2ŁØT.

Other sets held as part of the BIG Weekend were a special acoustic performance from Donato, Anders Osborne and Jackie Greene and an acoustic brunch offering from Murray and Law’s Murray’s Law project.

Eggy took the stage on Saturday afternoon for an hour-long set. The Connecticut-based quartet kicked off their performance with “Whoa There” and continued forward with fellow live staples “Trixieville,” “Come Up Slowly” and “Burritos El Chavo 2.”

Guitarist Jake Brownstein took a moment after the “Peace Upon Us” that followed to draw attention to the Divided Sky Foundation’s mission of helping those struggling with addiction. Brownstein noted the band lost its namesake, Edward “Eggy” Torrence, to substance abuse. He explained how special it was for the band to look out and see yellow balloons and a community the band valued so much.

Eggy then served up an ethereal “Agatha” before welcoming Jennifer Hartswick and Natalie Cressman to the stage. Hartswick and Cressman added horns to the powerful “Laurel” that closed Eggy’s set.
