Eggy Welcomes Eric D. Johnson For Fruit Bats & CSN Songs In Los Angeles

Eggy brought their Peaks & Valleys Spring Tour with Taper’s Choice to Los Angeles on Friday for a concert at the Lodge Room. The Connecticut-based quartet was joined by special guest Eric D. Johnson of Fruit Bats and Bonny Light Horseman for a pair of songs towards the middle of their lone set.

Eric D. Johnson had an acoustic guitar on hand when he emerged for his appearance. The Los Angeles-based musician guided Eggy through his Fruit Bats song “The Bottom Of It” to start his guest spot.

“The Bottom Of It” opens the 2019 Fruit Bats album Gold Past Life. Eggy previously played the song once, 390 shows prior, on February 3, 2022 in Rochester, New York.

Johnson also handled lead vocals and played acoustic guitar on the cover of Crosby Stills & Nash’s “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” that followed. The expansive version of the song from the legendary trio’s self-titled 1969 debut album featured an explosive jam with multiple peaks driven by Eggy guitarist Jake Brownstein. Eggy has performed “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” over 30 times dating back to 2017.

The foursome unplugged for a three-song sequence after Johnson left the stage, as “Shallow Rivers,” “Agatha” and “Thorns” were each played unplugged. “Laurel” and the title track from Eggy’s 2024 album, Waiting Game, were split by a rare cover of Radiohead’s “Subterranean Homesick Alien” to close the set. Eggy punctuated the night with a “Voice Of Them All” encore.
