The Disco Biscuits played the penultimate concert of their six-night Colorado run on Saturday, the second of two shows at the Boulder Theater (tDB performed as Tractorbeam at Boulder’s Fox Theater on Sunday). The band broke out their cover of the familiar “Sabre Dance” by Armenian composer Aram Khatchaturian for the first time in four years to wrap the first set.

The Disco Biscuits — bassist Marc Brownstein, guitarist Jon Gutwillig, keyboardist Aron Magner and drummer Allen Aucoin — kicked off the first frame with the 2024 debut of “Rockafella.” The +23-minute version included tDB’s recently unveiled sampling of Massive Attack’s “Teardrop.”

The quartet then moved into an inverted rendition of new song “Twisted in the Road,” which almost matched “Rockafella” in its exploration. Bisco kept things inverted on “And The Ladies Were The Rest Of The Night.” The vintage tDB tune gave way to a pair of newer songs beginning with “To Be Continued,” debuted in late-2022, and “Fire Will Exchange,” unveiled on NYE 2023.

“Sabre Dance” came next. The Disco Biscuits last performed the Aram Khatchaturian piece — a movement from the composer’s 1942 ballet Gayane which has appeared in dozens of films and television shows — on January 4, 2020 for a gap of 195 shows, as per Phantasy Tour. Bisco debuted the composition in 2003 and have performed it just 21 times since then with the lion’s share of the plays coming in 2003 and 2009. “Sabre Dance” concluded the seamless first frame.

The quartet’s second set was also a seamless affair. Set two got underway with “Reactor” ahead of a lengthy rendition of the classic “Spacebirdmatingcall.” A cover of LCD Soundsystem’s “Tribulations” followed. Relatively new song “The Deal” and Hallucinogen’s (Simon Posford) “Gamma Goblins” came next. Bisco bookended the set by finishing up “Reactor.”

The encore got underway with Pink Floyd’s “Run Like Hell,” from which emerged the newly unveiled original “No Recollection.” The band premiered the song on January 26 in the Lake Tahoe area. The Disco Biscuits returned to “Run Like Hell” to cap the concert.
