Dinosaur Jr. returned to the Music Hall of Williamsburg last night for the sixth of seven shows celebrating the 30th anniversary of the band’s Where You Been album. Though the focus has been on the 1993 record, guitarist Ryley Walker “made it” by joining the trio for a pair of songs off 1987’s You’re Living All Over Me as part of another guest-filled Dinosuar Jr. concert in Brooklyn.
Ryley Walker, Screaming Females guitarist/vocalist Marissa Paternoster, Sunburned Hand Of The Man drummer John Moloney and Australian singer J.G. Thrilwell of Foetus each sat-in with Dinosaur Jr. on Thursday during the back half of their main set. Additionally, the three-piece — guitarist J Mascis, bassist Lou Barlow and drummer Murph — welcomed Mascis and Barlow’s former Deep Wound bandmate, Scott Helland, for the evening’s final song.

Dinosaur Jr. devoted the first portion of the concert to a complete performance of Where You Been sans guests. Molo then emerged and utilized a second drum set for “The Wagon,” the show’s only song from the trio’s 1991 LP Green Mind. Ryley Walker came out next to jam with the trio on You’re Living All Over Me’s “Kracked” and “The Lung.”
“I used to sit in a room w my friends doing bong rips of Mexican brick listening to you’re living all over me,” Walker wrote on X as pointed out by Brooklyn Vegan. “I cannot believe it boys we made it,” the Chicago-bred guitarist added about the experience.

The parade of special guests continued with J.G. Thrillwell leading Dinosaur Jr. through The Stooges’ “No Fun” and “T.V. Eye.” The main set ended with Paternoster on guitar for “Freak Scene.” The trio played the classic “Feel The Pain” and a cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” to get the encore underway before Helland fronted the group on Deep Wound’s “Training Ground.”
Dinosaur Jr. closes out their Brooklyn residency tonight. A livestream can be viewed by nugs.net subscribers for free.
