Dawes released an updated version of their song, “Time Spent In Los Angeles,” with proceeds from the new single going toward Los Angeles wildfire recovery. Andrew Bird and Alan Hampton appear on the track benefiting MusiCares’ Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort.
Dawes co-founders – brothers Taylor Goldsmith and Griffin Goldsmith – were among the thousands impacted by the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. The Eaton fire destroyed Taylor’s home studio and damaged the home he shares with his wife Mandy Moore. Griffin lost his entire home and recording studio storing an array of instruments.
Dawes previously shared a recording of Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” with proceeds going to MusiCares.org. The band led an all-star performance of the song at this year’s Grammy Awards.

Originally released on Dawes’ 2011 sophomore album, Nothing Is Wrong, “Time Spent In Los Angeles” was recently performed by the Goldsmiths on Jimmy Kimmel Live, shortly after suffering the severe damage to their homes.
“We were asked to perform on Jimmy Kimmel within a week of both of our properties burning in Altadena,” Taylor Goldsmith stated. “Griffin lost his house and I lost our studio. We decided to play a ballad version of ‘Time Spent in Los Angeles.’ The song means all sorts of different things to us now. After that live performance it became clear we would want a proper studio recording of the version for posterity (and to maybe even raise a little more money for MusiCares).
“So we hit up our fellow Angelenos Andrew Bird and Alan Hampton and recorded this live in one take at our old friend Mike Viola’s house studio in Echo Park. I feel like this is the version of this song that we’re gonna be playing for a long time to come.”
