David Crosby was supposed to perform a set of Crosby Stills Nash & Young songs at Santa Barbara’s Lobero Theatre on February 22 to celebrate the venue’s 150th birthday. While the show was called off in the wake of Crosby's death in January, it will now proceed on August 20 featuring the band that was slated to back the two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Famer.
The ensemble, who call themselves Stand and Be Counted in honor of the CSNY song of the same name, features Crosby’s son and longtime collaborator keyboardist/vocalist James Raymond along with guitarist/vocalist Steve Postell (David Crosby, Immediate Family, John Oates), drummer/vocalist Stevie Distanislao (CSN, CPR, Oleta Adams), guitarist Dean Parks (Crosby/Nash, James Taylor), guitarist/vocalist Chris Stills (Stephen Stills, Ryan Adams) and bassist Andrew Ford (Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan). Vocalists Lara Johnston (Don Henley, Joe Walsh) and Ken Stacey (Michael Jackson, Phil Collins) fill out the lineup. Shawn Colvin is aboard as a special guest.
Crosby, who died at age 81 on January 19 while battling COVID-19 according to Graham Nash, hadn’t been on stage since before the pandemic. The legendary musician had rounded up the band to start rehearsals when he became ill.
Stand and Be Counted will present the show on August 20 as a tribute to David Crosby using the same setlist Croz prepared for the concert. Tickets go on sale soon via the venue’s website.
