Bassist Geddy Lee says the band’s sold-out Scotiabank Arena run is the “natural choice” to document the reunion tour.

Rush brings their reunion tour home this weekend to start a run of four sold-out concerts at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena. Each of the four shows will be filmed for use in a potential concert film documenting the legendary band’s Fifty Something Tour.

The Toronto Star broke the news after connecting with bassist Geddy Lee via email. Lee told the Star that Toronto was a “natural choice” for film as both he and Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson grew up in the Canadian city.

“The demand for such a film has been off the charts, not only as a keepsake of their experience, but for those many fans that have not been able to see it live,” Lee added.

“We know there are fans travelling here from all across the globe and that will make it a special week.”

Rush tapped Lee’s brother, Allen Weinrib, to oversee the filming. Weinrib will be making his directorial debut after decades producing the band’s other projects, including 2015’s R40 Live.

“A representative for the band says plans for the how the concert footage will be used is still being explored,” noted the Toronto Star.

R40 Live was also filmed at the Scotiabank Arena, which was known as the Air Canada Centre at the time. Toronto was also the spot where Rush filmed footage used in the 1984 concert movie Grace Under Pressure: Tour 1984.

The trek marks Lee and Lifeson’s first tour under the Rush name since 2015. Anika Nilles has stepped in for drummer Neil Peart, who sadly died of brain cancer in 2020. Keyboardist Loren Gold rounds out the current lineup.

Rush kicked off the reunion tour on June 7 in Los Angeles. The band will perform in Toronto on Friday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. Over 50 additional dates across North America, Europe and South America are scheduled through April 10, 2027.
