Charlie Puth Welcomes Art Garfunkel, Busta Rhymes, Jimmy Fallon & Kirk Franklin At Sold-Out MSG Concert

Charlie Puth achieved a career milestone on Friday (May 29) when he sold out his debut headlining concert at Madison Square Garden. The New Jersey-bred singer-songwriter celebrated the occasion by bringing out a diverse array of special guests — Art Garfunkel, Jimmy Fallon, Busta Rhymes and Kirk Franklin — during the show.

Puth is currently on the road for his Whatever's Clever World Tour in support his recently released Whatever's Clever album. The show at MSG came 13 years after performed in front of a mere 100 people at NYC’s The Bitter End night club.

Art Garfunkel was Puth’s first guest of the evening. “He learned how to make his records from me and Paul,” Garfunkel beamed to the New York crowd on Friday as per Billboard. “You’re my student.”

Charlie Puth agreed with the sentiment telling MSG, “I am your student. I’m not just saying that because all these wonderful people are here. The reason that I’m here right now is because of the music you’ve written with Paul. It’s amazing.”

Puth joined voices with the legendary musician on the Simon & Garfunkel 1969 hit “The Boxer.” The pair were accompanied by members of Puth’s band and Garfunkel guitarist Tab Laven.

Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon came out a few songs later. Fallon presented Puth with a special New York Rangers jersey featuring “PUTH” and “26” emblazoned on the back. Charlie and Jimmy teamed up on Toto’s “Africa,” a yacht rock classic from 1992.

Jimmy Fallon stayed out to introduce Long Island’s own Busta Rhymes. The legendary rapper linked up with Puth on Rhymes originals “Break Ya Neck” and “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See” before spitting his verse from Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now.”

The cavalcade of special guests ended a little later with a three-song collaboration featuring Kirk Franklin. The gospel superstar and Puth tackled Franklin’s songs “I Smile” and “Lean On Me.” The latter contained a snippet of the Bill Withers’ iconic tune of the same name. Kirk Franklin’s time on stage with Charlie Puth ended with a joint version of God’s Property’s “Stomp.”
