Bon Iver Announces New Album ‘i,i’ & Shares 2 Singles
Bon Iver will issue a new album entitled i,i via Jagjaguwar on August 30. Two tracks from the LP were released in June and now Bon Iver has shared “Jelmore” and “Faith” from the long awaited follow-up to 2016’s 22, A Million.
As teased in a trailer, i,i completes a four-album cycle of seasons. “From the winter of For Emma, Forever Ago came the frenetic spring of Bon Iver, Bon Iver, and the unhinged summer of 22, A Million. Now, fall arrives early with i,i,” states a press release on the 13-track LP.
Bon Iver mastermind Justin Vernon was joined by a core band of Sean Carey, Andrew Fitzpatrick, Mike Lewis, Matt McCaughan with Rob Moose and Jenn Wasner for the sessions that yielded i,i. Contributors include James Blake, Brad and Phil Cook, Aaron and Bryce Dessner, Bruce Hornsby, Channy Leaneagh, Naeem, Velvet Negroni, Marta Salogni, Francis Starlite, Moses Sumney, TU Dance and more.
“It feels very much like the most adult record, the most complete,” said Vernon in a statement. “It feels like when you get through all this life, when the sun starts to set, and what happens is you start gaining perspective. And then you can put that perspective into more honest, generous work.”
Sessions for the album started at April Base in Wisconsin and moved to Sonic Ranch in West Texas. “It allowed us to feel confident and comfortable, to be completely free of distraction,” Vernon explained of the move to Sonic Ranch. “I don’t think I left the property in six weeks. And in many ways the story of the album is the story of those six weeks rather than the almost six years of some of the songs.”
Bon Iver supports i,i with an extensive 2019 tour that includes U.S. dates this fall.
