Guitarist Billy Strings assembled his band at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville on Wednesday for a surprise “soundcheck set” as a preview of their forthcoming Streaming Strings tour of empty Nashville venues. Billy also confirmed his old pal Marcus King will be the special guest for tonight’s formal kickoff of the run at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville.
Billy Strings, bassist Royal Masat, banjoist Billy Failing and mandolin player Jarrod Walker played a 20-minute set last night that was livestreamed free-of-charge. The quartet opened with “This Heart Of Mine” and then picked their way through the instrumental “Tipper.” Strings then led the group through Doc Watson’s “The Train That Carried My Girl From Town” and talked about how nice he thinks the new venue is.

“It’s crazy trying to remember all these songs,” Billy exclaimed before adding, “It’s fun, too.” The four-piece then proceeded on with “Slow Train” and closed out the set by introducing his band mates while they jammed. Streaming Strings tour begins tonight and runs through July 26. As noted, Marcus King will be this evening’s special guest with other guests expected along the way.
