Kreutzmann was joined by guitarists Daniel Donato and Jake Brownstein (Eggy), percussionist Jason Hann (The String Cheese Incident), bassist Reed Mathis (Billy & The Kids), keyboardist Adam MacDougall (Circles Around The Sun) and vocalist Kanika Moore (Doom Flamingo) for his run of three sold-out Mahalo Dead shows at Porter Pavilion on the North Shore of the Hawaiian island of Kauai November 22 – 24, 2024. The drummer previewed the upcoming livestream special by sharing “Just A Little Light” video from the middle night.

Brent Mydland, the Grateful Dead’s keyboardist from April 1979 through his tragic death in 1990, co-wrote “Just A Little Light” with John Perry Barlow. The Grateful Dead performed the song featuring Brent on lead vocals over 20 times between 1989 and 1989. A studio version was releasd on the band’s final album, 1989’s Built To Last.

Bill Kreutzmann tapped Kanika Moore to channel Mydland on “Just A Little Light” to kick off the second set on November 23, 2024. Moore delivered a haunting vocal performance as Brownstein put an auto-wah effect to good use and Donato shredded effusive leads. Adam MacDougall added powerful swirls of organ and electric piano accents throughout.
