Brent Mydland, the Grateful Dead’s keyboardist from April 1979 through his tragic death in 1990, co-wrote “Just A Little Light” with John Perry Barlow. The Grateful Dead performed the song featuring Brent on lead vocals over 20 times between 1989 and 1989. A studio version was releasd on the band’s final album, 1989’s Built To Last.
Bill Kreutzmann tapped Kanika Moore to channel Mydland on “Just A Little Light” to kick off the second set on November 23, 2024. Moore delivered a haunting vocal performance as Brownstein put an auto-wah effect to good use and Donato shredded effusive leads. Adam MacDougall added powerful swirls of organ and electric piano accents throughout.
