Ween returned to the live stage this weekend for the first time following the cancelation of 40th anniversary tour dates while guitarist Dean Ween made efforts to “preserve (his) mental and spiritual well being.” The band’s return began with two shows at the KettleHouse Amphitheater in Missoula, Montana, one of which featured the live debut of the wondrously weird deep cut, “Makin’ Love In The Gravy.”
Back in March when Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo addressed the decision to cancel shows slated for April, he concluded his message by writing, “I look forward to returning to the stage with the enthusiasm, joy, and renewed sense of inspiration that our fans deserve, and that I require of myself when we play live.”
Deaner and Ween co-founder Aaron “Gene Ween” Freeman formed the band in 1984. Their long-established touring lineup includes bassist Dave Dreiwitz, drummer Claude Coleman Jr. and keyboardist Glenn McClelland.

Ween began their current run of shows on Friday at the KettleHouse delivering 31 songs between their main set and encore. The second show featured another 30-song setlist, with “Makin Love In The Gravy” played for the first time in the middle of the main set.
“We’re gonna play a song for the first time,” Deaner told the crowd on Saturday. “This is about as deep of a cut as there is.”
“Makin’ Love In The Gravy” was released as part of an obscure rarities compilation issued as an MP3 download in 1999 entitled Craters Of The Sac.
