Wednesday held an April Fool’s Day concert at Boston’s Roadrunner and marked the occasion with a musical prank to start the show. The band fooled their fans by opening with part of their bandmate MJ Lenderman’s song, “Manning Fireworks.”

Though not touring with Wednesday, Lenderman played guitar on the band’s well-received album, Bleeds, which came out in September 2025. Members of Wednesday, including Lenderman’s former partner, guitarist/vocalist Karly Hartzman, contributed to his acclaimed album, Manning Fireworks, which was released in September 2024.

Hartzman chuckled partway into the show-opening ease into the Manning Fireworks title track. After completing a few verses, Hartzman signaled her bandmates to stop, indicating there was something wrong.

“That’s April Fool’s,” Hartzman said, as the band broke into the Bleeds opening track, “Reality TV Argument Bleeds.”
