Wednesday issued a new album, Bleeds, today through Dead Oceans. The Karly Hartzman-fronted band’s last full-length was their well-received 2023 album, Rat Saw God. Hartzman is joined in Wednesday by guitarist Jake “MJ” Lenderman, bassist Ethan Baechtold, drummer Alan Miller and pedal steel guitarist Xandy Chelmis. The North Carolina-based band recorded the 12-track effort in Asheville at Drop of Sun. Longtime collaborator Alex Farrar produced Bleeds.
“Bleeds is the spiritual successor to Rat Saw God, and I think the quintessential ‘Wednesday Creek Rock’ album,” Hartzman said. “This is what Wednesday songs are supposed to sound like. We’ve devoted a lot of our lives to figuring this out — and I feel like we did.”
Nine Inch Nails provided the music for the TRON: Ares (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), which was released today by Interscope Records, which marks the band’s first official release in five years. While NIN’s Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are decorated film scorers with two Oscars, three Golden Globes and a Grammy in their trophy case, the soundtrack for the third installment in the TRON franchize marks the first time the duo has soundtracked a film using the Nine Inch Nails moniker.
Guitarist William Tyler and Four Tet producer Kieran Hebden released their long-anticipated collaborative album, 41 Longfield Street Late ‘80s, through Temporary Residence Ltd. In May 2023, Tyler and Hebden shared the collaborative singles, “Darkness, Darkness” and “No Services.” The seven-track album released today begins with a sprawling, 11-minute cover of Lyle Lovett’s “If I Had A Boat.”
Sarah McLachlan released her long-awaited new album, Better Broken, through Concord Records. McLachlan recorded Better Broken – her first album of new material since 2014’s Shine On and 10th overall – at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles with producers Tony Berg and Will Maclellan. McLachlan was joined in the studio by guitarist Wendy Melvoin, drummer Matt Chamberlain, pedal-steel guitarist Greg Leisz and multi-instrumentalist Benny Bock. MUNA’s Katie Gavin features on the track “Reminds Me.”
Rapper Cardi B released her hotly anticipated sophomore album, Am I The Drama?, today via Atlantic Records. The long-awaited follow-up to her 2018 debut, Invasion of Privacy, includes the tracks “Up,” which came out in 2021 and “WAP” featuring Megan Thee Stallion, which was released in 2020. Additional guests appearing alongside Cardi B on Am I The Drama? include Janet Jackson, Selena Gomez, Lizzo, Tyla, Kehlani, Cash Cobain, Summer Walker and others.
Real Warmth is Joan Shelley’s seventh album, released today by No Quarter. The follow-up to her 2022 album The Spur with Real Warmth ws recorded with producer Ben Whiteley at Casa Wroxton in Toronto. Several Toronto-affiliated artists contributed to the 13-track effort, including Doug Paisley and . Shelley’s husband, fellow singer-songwriter Nathan Salsburg, is credited on the Real Warmth, along with their young daughter Talya Bloom Salsburg.
Singer-songwriter Mike Miz shared his latest studio effort, Sometimes By Surprise, today through Blackbird Record Label. The album was recorded to two-inch tape at The Studio Nashville in May and June 2024. Miz worked with producer Ted Pecchio on the 13-track LP. Miz played acoustic and electric guitars and Pecchio played bass. They were joined by guitarist Laur Joamets, keyboardists Peter Levin and Robbie Crowell, drummers Jano Rix and Nick Buda, percussionist Rob Crawford and vocalist Jaime Paul.
