Watch Waxahatchee & Kevin Morby Cover Magnolia Electric Co. At G*VE A F*CK LA Wildfire Benefit

Kevin Morby brought along Waxahatchee (Katie Crutchfield) for his set at last night’s G*VE A F*CK LA Wildfire benefit concert at The Hollywood Palladium. The couple once again showed their appreciation for the late Jason Molina and covered Magnolia Electric Co.’s “The Dark Don’t Hide It.”

Morby and Crutchfield have previously covered Molina numerous times, including performing “The Dark Don’t Hide It.” The song appeared on the 2005 Magnolia Electric Co. album, What Comes After the Blues.

Molina, who recorded music as Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co., as well as under his own name, sadly died in 2013 at age 39. Crutchfield and Morby recorded the Songs: Ohia song “Farewell Transmission” and released it as a single in tribute to Molina in 2018.

Morby and Crutchfield began their collaboration with “Bittersweet, TN,” from Morby’s 2022 album, This Is A Photograph. Watch the couple cover “The Dark Don’t Hide It” below:

Jenny Lewis, Hayley Williams, Katie Gavin, St. Vincent, Courtney Barnett, FINNEAS, Fred Armisen, Lucy Dacus, Perfume Genius, The Linda Lindas and others were also part of the lineup of musicians and comedians who participated in the concert held in response to the recent Los Angeles area wildfires.

The benefit show and auction supported local organizations, including Altadena Girls, Friends in Deed, One Voice and Pasadena Humane Society. Veeps hosted a livestream of the concert.
