Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour returned to the site of one of his old band’s most famous concerts one week ago today as Gilmour brought his tour in support of Rattle That Lock to the ancient Anfiteatro Romano amphitheater in Pompeii. The big news from the show was his performance of “Great Gig In The Sky,” a Dark Side Of The Moon classic he last played in 2006 and has only performed a handful of times since Pink Floyd broke up.

Our friends at Consequence of Sound have come across the best fan-shot footage of the “Great Gig” bust out to surface thus far. It was filmed on Monday night at a different ancient, roman amphitheater in Verona. The Verona Arena is just as historic a venue as the amphitheater Gilmour played in Pompeii. Verona Arena was built in AD 30 and is considered “one of the best preserved ancient structures of its kind.” David Gilmour performed two shows at the oldest open-air opera festival in the world including Monday’s 23-song concert. Monday’s show featured a typical Gilmour mix of solo gems and Pink Floyd classics including the tour’s third performance of “The Great Gig In The Sky.”
