Warren Haynes Discusses Recent Visit With Gregg Allman & Closes Door On ABB Reunion

Monday was a scary day for Gregg Allman fans as a report circulated stating that the co-founding member of the Allman Brothers Band had entered hospice care. Allman’s manager later denied the report and Gregg issued a somewhat optimistic message of his own. Two of Gregg’s longtime band mates visited him and one of them said reports of Allman’s demise are in his opinion exaggerated.

Warren Haynes spoke with journalist Gary Graff and a few choice nuggets from the conversation were posted on WCSX.com. Haynes told Graff he and another former ABB guitarist, Derek Trucks, took a trip “a few days ago” to Gregg Allman’s Savannah home. When asked whether Gregg is on death’s door Haynes responded, “Not the case, from my perspective. We had not seen him in awhile, so it was good to catch up. We just kind of told stories for a few hours and gave him positive thoughts.”

Graff also asked Warren about the possibility of an Allman Brothers Band reunion. “I didn’t even see it happening again before Butch died, and especially after that I would pretty much close the door on it,” Haynes said. The Allman Brothers Band called it a career at the Beacon Theatre on October 28, 2014. Warren Haynes is currently on tour with Gov’t Mule.
