Rumors of a King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Billy Strings collaboration have been bouncing around for some time now. It now appears those rumors are true as video has surfaced of the Australian band and Billy in the studio.
In June 2023 during a show at The Caverns in Tennessee, where Billy Strings resides, KGLW name dropped the guitarist on stage.
“Following ‘Magma,’ Joey announced that he and Cookie had been working on their flatpicking to play bluegrass and jokingly asked where Billy Strings was,” as per KGLW.net notes. Billy attended a King Gizzard show later that summer and posted pictures with the band.
The bluegrass musician posted last week that he was in Australia, sparking new speculation. The video Gizz shared via social media stokes the buzz even further. It sees drummer Michael Cavanagh holding an acoustic guitar beside bassist Lucas Harwood. Cavs appears to be showing Strings something on a song that is playing back. “I don’t know how marketable that’s gonna be,” Strings jokes.

Billy Strings is set to kick off a run at St. Augustine Amphitheater in Florida on April 2. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will be back in the U.S. for a brief run of shows in August including their Field Of Vision Festival at Meadow Creek in Colorado, where Billy has also held festivals.
