Video & Full Show Audio: Dead & Company Concludes Alpine Valley Two-Night Stand

Last night Dead & Company wrapped a two-night stand at Alpine Valley in East Troy, Wisconsin. Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, along with Jeff Chimenti, John Mayer and Oteil Burbridge played a number of Dead classics during the show that included a second set bookended by “Sugar Magnolia.”

Weir led the ensemble through the opening “Samson & Delilah” and the following “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo” featuring Mayer adding backing vocals to the chorus. A bluesy run through “Loose Lucy” gave way to the Mayer-sung “Standing On The Moon.” Bobby took lead on a leisurely delivered “Crazy Fingers” and the easy-going pace continued with John’s lead guitar and vocals on “Althea.” Burbridge, Mayer and Weir each took a turn singing verses during the first set closing “Going Down The Road Feeling Bad.”

The second set began with Bobby’s upbeat “Sugar Magnolia” and concluded with a return to the “Sunshine Daydream” ending of the song to close out set two. The second half also included a slow burning “Viola Lee Blues,” a spirited performance of the classic pairing of “Scarlet Begonias” > “Fire On The Mountain” that featured several peaks behind Mayer’s soloing, the nightly psychedelic rhythm experiment Hart and Kreutzmann put on during “Drums” and the contemplative ballad “Wharf Rat.” The encore started off with an acoustic “Ripple” followed by a rollicking “Touch Of Grey.”
