Umphrey’s McGee Loads Charlotte Show With Rarities & Radiohead Cover Bust Out

On Saturday night Umphrey’s McGee continued the latest leg of their summer tour at The Fillmore in Charlotte, North Carolina. The band treated fans to a debut, plenty of beloved classics that have become rare these days and the return of a Radiohead cover after nearly two years as well as a Pink Floyd cover which had gone missing since 2015.

UM opened the show with their newest instrumental intro, “Lord Bail Ship” which led into “1348.” Last night’s first set was highlighted by well-jammed takes on “Resolution” and “Dump City” featuring impressive interplay between keyboardist Joel Cummins and guitarists Jake Cinninger and Brendan Bayliss. The initial “Resolution” jam in particular is a major-key beauty filled with powerful shredding from the guitarists and synth swirls from Cummins. Saturday’s opening stanza also included the first “White Man’s Moccasins” in 34 shows and first “Loose Ends” since April.

The second set opened with a pair of song sandwiches. Up first was a version of “The Bottom Half” split with rare instrumental “Sweetness” and the “OG” “Cut The Cable.” From there, UM lit into a “Red Tape” featuring the band’s first cover of Radiohead instrumental “Meeting In The Aisle” since October 23, 2014 – a span of 172 shows. Fan-favorite “Phil’s Farm” then led into the end of “1348” to close out the second set. Umphrey’s had one more trick up their sleeves in ending the show with the 2016 debut of “Time” (Pink Floyd) to the delight of the crowd. The six-piece returns to the road on Friday in Baltimore.
