While Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio starts his first extended solo acoustic tour in six years tomorrow in Springfield (Massachusetts), he went the opposite route last night at The Beacon Theatre. Anastasio was backed by “master of ceremonies” Bill Murray and the complete Love Rocks NYC house band, including horns and vocalists, and for “Everything’s Right” at the ninth annual benefit concert.
Trey Anastasio made his Love Rocks NYC debut on Thursday as part of a star-studded lineup with Cher, Beck, Alicia Keys, Mavis Staples, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Dave Stewart Eurythmics featuring Vanessa Amorosi, Eric Burton, Grace Bowers, Jesse Malin, Kate Hudson, Luke Spiller, Michael McDonald, Peter Frampton.
The concert has taken place at The Beacon Theatre each year since 2017 as a fundraiser for God’s Love We Deliver, an organization that home-delivers medically tailored meals to New Yorkers in need due to illness. Over $4 million was brought in last night with proceeds going to both God’s Love We Deliver and sister organization Project Angel Food in response to the devasting Los Angeles wildfires.

Trey Anastasio first emerged towards the middle of last night’s concert to join Peter Frampton and Grace Bowers on a cover of the Beatles' “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” Anastasio was then the final featured performer of the benefit.
Anastasio stepped into the spotlight to play his original “Everything’s Right” and front a take on the Led Zeppelin classic “Good Times Bad Times” before he took part in the “Higher Ground” finale with Cher, Beck, Michael McDonald and many others on the lineup. The Struts frontman Luke Spiller emerged during “Good Times Bad Times” to take over vocal duties from Anastasio.
The Love Rocks NYC house band, under the direction of bassist Will Lee, accompanied each of the featured performers. Lee is joined the dream ensemble by guitarist Eric Krasno, multi-instrumentalist Larry Campbell, keyboardists Jeff Babko and Michael Bearden, percussionist Pedrito Martínez and drummer Shawn Pelton. The six-piece God’s Love Horn section and six We Deliver Singers were brought in for many songs, including “Everything’s Right.”
Trey Anastasio debuted the optimistic “Everything’s Right” with his Trey Anastasio Band outfit on April 14, 2017 at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. Phish added the song to its repertoire the following summer and its remained a live staple ever since.
Bill Murray introduced Trey Anastasio’s two-song mini-set last night. “So, this guy is back. I’m sorry, he’s back. He left, everything was fine. But then he came back. He was seen, he was chasing Cher’s sprinter van up Amsterdam Avenue and we thought we were done with him. But he’s back so let’s hear it for him,” Murray quipped. The actor/comedian/musician returned to join Pedrito Martinez on percussion late in the song.
Trey Anastasio, Eric Krasno and Larry Campbell exchanged rapid fire riffage just before “Everything’s Right” concluded. Watch audience-captured video of “Everything’s Right” and “Good Times Bad Times” from last night’s show below:
