The National’s Matt Berninger Performs ‘Serpentine Prison’ Songs Live

The National frontman Matt Berninger filmed a set featuring live performances of four songs from his Serpentine Prison LP for ARTE’s Long Distance Call video series. Serpentine Prison, Berninger’s debut solo album, was released on October 16.
Matt Berninger was accompanied by guitarists Sean O’Brien and Harrison Whitford for his Long Distance Call set. The trio began the performance, which was filmed at a studio in Los Angeles, with “Distant Axis.”

Berninger, O’Brien and Whitford next played “One More Second,” a track Matt Berninger wrote with Matt Sheehy. From there, The National frontman led Sean and Harrison through “Take Me Out Of Town,” which Berninger penned with Hayden Desser. The session came to a close with a performance of the title track from Serpentine Prison.
