The Disco Biscuits Cover Elvis Presley & The Doors In Philadelphia

On Saturday night, Philadelphia’s own The Disco Biscuits brought a three-night hometown stand to a close at The Fillmore. Last night’s finale saw the jamtronica pioneers joined by horns for a pair of cover debuts to end the first set and focus on the jams over the course of a five-song second set.

The Disco Biscuits celebrated Mardi Gras by welcoming the Swift Technique horn section to assist on covers of “Suspicious Minds” and “Touch Me.” While “Suspicious Minds” may have been written and first recorded by Mark James, it is Elvis Presley’s chart-topping rendition of the song that most are familiar with. “Touch Me” was a huge hit for The Doors in 1968. In addition to the horns, tDB welcomed a number of revelers wearing costumes to dance on stage during the cover debuts that ended the first set.

“Little Betty Boop” kicked off the second set and spanned nearly 50 minutes with an inverted “Crickets” included within. “Story Of The World” followed before giving way to fan-favorite classic “House Dog Party Favor.” The Disco Biscuits still had a few tricks up their sleeves for the encore. First up was just the third “Magellan Reprise” since 2010 which led into the unusual but appreciated encore choice of “Basis For A Day.” Next up for the Disco Biscuits is an appearance at the AURA Music & Arts Festival in early March.
