Yesterday, Robyn celebrated the announcement of Sexistential, her first full-length album in eight years, with an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The pop icon swung by the Ed Sullivan Theater to perform the forthcoming LP’s rap-infused title track, “Sexistential.”
“Sexistential” is “possibly the world’s first rap about having one-night stands while 10 weeks pregnant after IVF,” as per press materials. The single arrived with the album announcement, accompanied by “Talk To Me,” which followed the previously released Sexistenial track, “Dopamine.” Robyn co-produced the LP with longtime collaborator Klas Åhlund. Sexistential is set for release on February 27 via Young.
Robyn was inspired to write “Sexistential” after André 3000 claimed no one would want to hear him rap about his colonoscopy. “It was my cue,” Robyn stated in a press release. “I have to do this, I have to write a rap about IVF.”
The Swedish singer put her all into the “Sexistential” performance on the Colbert stage. Robyn danced and sang in front of a monitor displaying graphics based on the song’s lyrics.
