Reed Mathis‘ In The Now project will perform their first show on U.S. soil next month. Mathis will be joined by Dead & Company drummer Jay Lane and ALO bassist Steve Adams in opening for Circles Around The Sun at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, California on Friday, April 12.

“I am so excited to get to open for CATS – I’ve loved them since I first heard them blasting through the PA at GD50,” Mathis told JamBase. “Also, their keyboardist, Adam MacDougall, and I recently collaborated on a mammoth double album with Jay Lane that I can’t wait to drop on the world!”

While Reed Mathis plays bass in Billy & The Kids, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey and Golden Gate Wingmen, he will be on guitar for In The Now concerts. The Bay Area-based musician started preferring the instrument after spending more time on guitar during the lockdown. Mathis began playing it out of necessity as he performed as a one-man-band on zooms and livestreams while venues were closed due to the pandemic.

In The Now will have “a fluid lineup from a select roster” as per a press release. Mathis unveiled the project at the inaugural Bajaja Music Festival in El Pescadero, Mexico on December 2, where the lineup featured Adams, drummer Jeremy Black (Apollo Sun) and guitarist Jeremy Korpas (Big Light).

Jay Lane and Reed Mathis are both members of Golden Gate Wingmen and previously toured together in Electric Beethoven’s classic lineup. After the Sweetwater concert, Lane will set his sights on Las Vegas for Dead & Company’s 24-show residency at the Sphere.
