Famed singer-songwriter-guitarist Phoebe Snow passed away this morning at the age of 58. The news comes over a year after she suffered a brain hemorrhage in January 2010.

She is best remembered for her 1974 top 5 hit, “Poetry Man” off her grammy nominated self-titled debut album, appearing on the cover of Rolling Stone and performing on SNL to promote the record. During this time she also recorded duets with Paul Simon and Linda Ronstadt.

After her commercial and critical breakthrough in the mid-70s, Snow’s career took a backseat to meet the needs of her daughter, Valerie, who was born in 1975 with severe brain damage. She recorded intermittently in the ensuing decades, finally resurfacing after 14 years with her first album of new material in 2003. Valerie passed away at the age of 31 in 2007.
