Mike D recently made his debut on British talk show Later…With Jools Holland. The Beastie Boys legend offered two performances, “Switch Up” and “What We Got,” with his band 5D.

The songs are the opening salvo on Mike D’s forthcoming album, Thank You, arriving August 27. The new music from the Beastie Boys co-founder marks his solo debut as well as the first release from a member of the group since the trio’s Hot Sauce Committee Part Two in 2011. The Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch passed away a year later.

Mike D collaborated with his sons Davis and Skyler Diamond and their band Very Nice Person on Thank You. In a recent interview with NME, Mike spoke about collaboration with his sons but also the environment the album is arriving in:

“It’s been so much fun making this music with people I love and I have grown to really appreciate in our collaboration. And I just hope it’s fun for others and not overly serious, because let’s be real, I’m releasing this music into a very strange and dark and power-fixated world that really devalues art and feelings and compassion and empathy and equality.”

Mike D fronted the aptly named 5D on “Switch Up” and “What We Got” for the Jools Holland play. Watch both performances as well as an interview below:
