TAUK’s Matt Jalbert Announces Debut Solo Album ‘Somebody’s Child’ & Shares Groovy Title Track

TAUK guitarist Matt Jalbert shared his debut solo single, “Somebody’s Child.” The song is the title track to Jalbert’s debut album, due out on November 20 via ELM Records.

Somebody’s Child marks Jalbert’s first foray into writing lyrics and singing, a departure from his instrumental quartet TAUK. Armed with an eight-song set, Matt took to Tone Town studio in Los Angeles where he co-produced Somebody’s Child with Curtis Kelley and Devin Runco. Kelley (drums) and Runco (bass) also perform on the record along with keyboardist Steve Watkins.

The first look at Somebody’s Child is the title track, which Jalbert detailed.

“This was the first song I wrote. At first, I kept wondering whether it was too late to start writing lyrics in my thirties, especially when so many musicians and songwriters had started much earlier,” he said. “How could I ever catch up? But once I got into the creative process, I realized none of that mattered. I was having fun doing it. The song gets at that feeling: make the most of your time, do what feels good and keep searching. If you can have some fun and feel some love, you’re lucky. When you’re a child, comparison doesn’t matter. You make things because it’s fun to make things. You have to keep that spirit alive.”

Matt Jalbert is set to present the project over Halloween weekend on a run with Natalie Brooke. His live solo band features jam scene luminaries such as Ben Atkind on drums, Eli Winderman on keys, Jonathan Colman on bass and Adam November on guitar.
